January 24, 1947 – September 7, 2003 An unusual and truly talented musician who was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma in 2002. He began composing his final album, because he did not believe the known treatments then would help or cure him. He was the single guest on an episode of the Late Show with David Letterman, and Letterman asked something like "Do you know anything more about life now than I do?" and Zevon's reply was "Only that you should enjoy every sandwich"...a simply-phrased way to remind everyone to embrace and enjoy the simplest moments of life.
