Spanish Classical period guitar virtuoso and composer José Fernando Macarurio Sor (1778-1839) was one of the early champions of what has come to be known as classical guitar. His works number upwards of 250, from guitar pieces for students and average talents to a full opera. Yet even more than his music, he may be remembered for his 1830 book on guitar technique, Méthode pour la guitare.
