The Austrian Romantic period composer Franz von Suppé (1819-1895) was born in Spalato (Split), Dalmatia to a Belgian-Italian father and a Viennese mother of Czech and Polish ancestry and his birth certificate read Francesco Ezechiele Ermenegildo Cavaliere Suppé Demelli. The creator of many stage works, he is now most remembered for his overtures.
