Silchar is a town in the Cachar district, in southern Assam in North-Eastern India. It is a part of the Barak-Valley and is situated on the banks of the Barak river.
The residents here are mainly Bengali. Sylheti, a dialect of Bengali, is the commonly spoken language.
Silchar is well-connected to the rest of the country via road, rail and air. Silchar is modestly developed having the basic amenities of a town like Hospitals, Colleges, Universities, Radio and Television stations.
