Chhattisgarh was formed in November 2000 from the eastern part of the territory of the old Madhya Pradesh state. It is bordered by Madhya Pradesh, Bihar (Jharkhand), Orissa, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. The capital is at Raipur.
