Muhu island comprises the largest part of the municipality and is the second largest island in Saaremaa county. The municipality also includes several smaller islands, including: Kesselaid, Suurlaid, Viirelaid, and Võilaid as well as many small islets. Muhu municipality covers an area of 198 km² and has a population of approximately 1,800. It consists of 52 villages (Estonian: külad):
