Hostels are unique from hotels and pensions in that nearly all facilities are shared with other guests. Rooms are dormitory style and are usually furnished with bunkbeds but private rooms may also be available. Other areas such as bathrooms and lounges are shared.

Hostels typically cater to student travellers and are typically much less expensive than a hotel or pension.
