Butterleigh is a village nestled in the hills above the River Burn which feed the Exe, to the west and connects to the A395 main road at  Bickleigh
Butterleigh is a small parish administered by  Mid Devon District Council, with its west boundary separated from Bickleigh by the north reaches of the parish of  Silverton, whose village is further south.
The parish of  Bradninch is further to the south east. and the north reaches of  Cullompton parish are on Butterleigh's west boundary, and  Halberton on the north boundary, separating it from the Borough of  Tiverton northeast of Butterleigh.
