- Bourton is a village, now bypassed by the A303 trunk road, and skirts the North Dorset parish of Silton to the south east.
- Bourton parish extends south west of the A303, West Bourton, with its western boundary
- with the South Somerset parish of Cucklington.
- North of the A303, the Somerset boundary is with Penselwood.
- Bourton's north east boundary is with Wiltshire at Zeals.
- The River Stour enters Dorset at Bourton, and flows south through Silton, to Milton on Stour in the parish of Gillingham
- which extends west to the county boundary, before Buckhorn Weston further south west.
