Dorchester is the county town of Dorset, on the south bank of the River Frome,
founded by the Romans, as Dvrnovaria, and now the seat of Dorset Council.
The town is served by the South Western Main Line railway leading to Yeovil from
London Paddington via Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
Dorchester's ring road, takes road traffic from  Puddletown on the A35 trunk road from the
north east, skirts the east of the town at  West Stafford, where the A352 takes traffic
south east to  Broadmayne, the A354 to  Weymouth south, the A35 west to  Bridport,
then at  Charminster north of the town, the A37 leads north west to
Yeovil, after leaving the county at  Melbury Osmond.
