- Pentridge is a village, with its name derived from the Celtic for 'hill of the wild boar' on the edge of Cranborne Chase in north East Dorset.
- The former civil parish, is now administered as a combined parish with Sixpenny Handley to the west.
- The east parish boundary with Hampshire at Martin largely coincides with Bokerley Ditch, a defensive dyke
- from the 1st century, where at Bockerley Junction, it is crossed by the Roman road between
- Old Sarum and Badbury Rings. The settlement of Woodyates survives off the A354.
- Cranborne is directly south, and the north limits of Wimborne St Giles include the Roman road along Ackling Dyke as it heads south south west,
- separating Pentridge and Sixpenny Handley.
- The northern boundary is with the Wiltshire parish of Bower Chalke.
