Donhead St Mary is a village in south west Wiltshire, on a hill 200 metres above sea level, west of
Donhead St Andrew, between which the River Nader flows northwards, after rising from
chalk streams west of the village, and Charlton Down in the south.
South of both villages, the A30 takes road traffic between  Swallowcliffe and  Shaftesbury.
Donhead St Mary parish stretches to the county border with Dorset at Shaftesbury, where
the hamlets of Coombe are north of the A30, and Charlton hamlet is to the south.
Ludworth village is on the A30 in the valley below Donhead St Mary, where a minor road
on the course of a Roman road leads south to  Ashmore,
and joins the B3081 road south west to  Tollard Royal.
