- The town is now bypassed to the north by the A303 trunk road, on the way to Wincanton.
- Mere Down is to the north of the A303 before Kingston Deverill.
- West Knoyle before Mere parish extends south west of the town along the Dorset border
- at Silton, Milton on Stour and Motcombe, to Sedghill and Semley.
