Eastern Charlotte was incorporated on January 1, 2023 via the amalgamation of the former town of St. George and the former village of Blacks Harbour as well as the concurrent annexation of adjacent unincorporated areas.
St. George was founded by Peter Clinch in the 1700s. The town may be best known for the quality of the granite cut from the large hills in the region. This Red Granite is reputed to be the best quality in the world and has been used in several historical land marks such as the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa and many Cathedrals throughout the world.
