New Haven [New Haven County] Connecticut was settled in 1638 and named in 1640, from Newhaven on the south coast of Sussex. Its Indian name is Quinnipiac. Consolidated and incorporated as a city in 1895.

Area, 20.3 sq. miles. Population, est., 123,189. Voting districts, 30. Principal industries, health, educational and business services. New Haven's industries include manufacturing and such business services as accounting, engineering, research and management.

New Haven includes the sections known as Allingtown, Fair Haven, Federal Station, Kilby, Westville and Yale.
