The City of Miami is part of a unified government in place at Miami-Dade County, the southern end of an urban corridor stretching north to West Palm Beach. Among its more well-known suburbs, neighborhoods and neighboring municipalities are Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Brickell, Aventura, Key Biscayne and Coconut Grove. Kendall and Homestead lie to the south, followed by Key Largo, gateway to the Florida Keys. The city of Hollywood lies to the north, blending into Fort Lauderdale as one continues north into Broward County. Miami is not only a cultural melting pot, it is also considered the unofficial capital of Latin America, a focus for commerce and culture among the various countries of Central and South America as well as Cuba, Haiti and the Caribbean.
