Kensington, Minnesota, population 295, is in the southwestern corner of Douglas County, at the intersection of State Highway 55 and County Road 1. Kensington is 15 miles west-southwest of Alexandria, the county seat.
Kensington's biggest claim to fame is the Kensington Runestone, found on a nearby farm in 1898. This 202-pound slab of graywacke is inscribed in runes which tell the story of a group of Norwegian and Swedish explorers, and is dated 1362. For several decades, the artifact has been on display at the Runestone Museum in Alexandria.
