Alta, Utah, United States is in Salt Lake County. It is located about 24 miles from Salt Lake City in Little Cottonwood Canyon on State Highway 210.
Settled in 1865, Alta was a silver mining town. After the fall of the silver market in 1873, many miners left the town. First opening in 1940, the natural ski runs have established Alta as a premium ski area.
