Laura Welch Bush was born Nov. 4, 1946 in Midland, Texas. She graduated from Southern Methodist University with a degree in Education and from University of Texas with a Master's in Library Science.

She and George Walker Bush married Nov. 5, 1977 and have two twin daughters, Jenna and Barbara. She is serving as First Lady during her husband's term as president, which began January 20, 2001.
