Hellenistic Greek, familiarly known as 'koine', was the common language of the Eastern Mediterranean after the conquest by Alexander. Consequently, a translation of the Old Testament and Apocrypha was made at this time into Greek - the Septuagint (LXX), and the koine version of the New Testament is believed to be in the original tongue.
