Gundam Wing

Originally released in 1995, "New Mobile Report Gundam Wing" is the second alternate universe (AC) TV series from the long-standing Gundam saga. Unlike the super-robotish "Mobile Fighter G Gundam," the story and military undertones of Gundam Wing closely resembles "Gundam 0079," the original Gundam animation from the universal century (UC). However, Gundam Wing features unique elements such as bishonen ("beautiful boys") and lavish settings, giving this series a unique place in the history of Gundam animations.

It is also the only non-U.C. Gundam series which features Newtypes, the theory of human evolution in future era first theoized in the First Gundam twenty years ago and subsequent U.C. Gundam stories. Aired in Japan during 1994-95 season, "Mobile Fighter G Gundam" is the first ever non-UC (Universal Century) Gundam TV series which kick-starts the trends for 'Alternate Universes' Gundam series which includes Gundam Wing, Gundam X, and Turn-A Gundam. Directed by the super-robo show veteran Yasuhiro Imagawa, G-Gundam is radically different from all other Gundam series with the usual military undertone being replaced by hot-blooded, action-packed martial art oriented MS combat actions with excellent stories and superb character designs which attract new and long time Gundam fans.

The 08th MS Team

Released between 1996-1999, "Gundam: The 08th MS Team" is a classic Gundam 0079 / One Year War side story OVA (Original Animated Video) which recounts the brutal Earth-Space conflict from the view of common soldiers. Directed by Takeyuki Kanda and Umanosuke Iida, "08" features heart warming storyline with sparking mecha designs by the trio of Kunio Okawara (0079), Hajime Katoki (0083, Endless Waltz) and Kimitoshi Yamane (G Gundam), and it remains one of the best Gundam OVA to date.
