Dragon Ball was first a manga by Akira Toriyama. He is also known for Dr. Slump and other series. Dragon Ball is based on a Chinese monkey magic legend about a free-spirited boy named Goku. Currently VIZ is providing the Dragon Ball manga around the U.S.
