British director and screenwriter, born 5th April 1942, Newport, Gwent, Wales, who started with experimental filmmaking, but has now moved to mainstream directing. Films include 'The Draughtsman's Contract' (1982), 'Drowning by Numbers' (1988), and '8½ Women' (1999).
