Salt-N-Pepa is a female hip-hop group from Queens, New York. They began in 1985 as Super Nature, originally consisting of Cheryl James (Salt) and Sandra Denton (Pepa). In 1986 DJ Latoya Hanson joined the group, but was replaced in 1987 by Deidra Roper (Spinderella). The group won a Grammy in 1995. Their debut album went gold (sold over 500,000 copies) and platinum (sold over 1 million copies) and a number of individual songs have gone gold.
