Joe Strummer (1952-2002) was born John Mellor in Ankara, Turkey, the son of a British diplomat stationed there. One of the key figures on the UK punk scene in the mid-70s, he was a guitarist with, and founder member of The Clash, also writing many of their songs. Until they split in the 1980s, the Clash produced a catalogue of punk classics, including "Career Opportunities" and "Should I Stay or Should I Go?", distilling the depression, anger and energy of 1970s Britain. He died at the age of 50 on 23rd December 2002, at his home in Somerset from a heart attack.

Styx is a band that had a string of multi-platinum albums in the late 1970's. The band's first top ten hit was Lady. Other top 10 hits included Come Sail Away, Babe, The Best of Times, Mr. Roboto, and Show Me The Way. The line-up changed over the years. The best known "classic" line-up is Dennis DeYoung (keyboards, vocals), James Young (guitars, vocals), Tommy Shaw (guitars, vocals), Chuck Panozzo (bass), and John Panozzo (drums). Shaw replaced original member John Curelewski in 1975 following the release of the Equinox album. Glen Burtnik replaced shaw on the 1990 album Edge of the Century. Shaw replaced Burtnik again in 1995. Todd Sucherman replaced John Panozzo when Panozzo passed away in 1996. Burtnik returned to replace Chuck Panozzo when Panozzo went into semi-retirement following the album Brave New World. Lawrence Gowan replaced Dennis DeYoung following the album Brave New World.
