French Romantic period composer Daniel-François Esprit Auber (1782-1871) wrote about forty operas as well as other compositions. Most of the operas had their debut at the Opéra Comique in Paris. Among the noted titles are Fra Diavolo, ou L'hôtellerie de Terracine, La Muette de Portici, and Cheval de bronze.
