Paris-born Ivan Tcherepnin (1943-1998) was of the third generation in a compositionally gifted family. He, fellow composer Serge, and their brother Peter were born to Alexander Tcherepnin and wife Lee Hsien-Ming. Besides traditional instruments, he composed for various electronic music devices and was, for a number of years, director of Harvard University's Electronic Music Studio. His wife, Sue-Ellen Hershman-Tcherepnin, was an accomplished musician and the gift of composition was passed on to his son Stefan.
