Drum and Bass (also called jungle) is an energetic branch of electronic dance music and has its musical roots in the hardcore rave movement in the United Kingdom in the early 90s. Over its lifespan, the music has drawn in influences from such diverse fields as Jazz, Ragga, Hip-hop and R&B.
The music is characterised by rapid breakbeats running at BPMs around the 170 mark. Whilst the music largely lives and was born on the dancefloor it has diversified into many different categories, some of which concentrate rather more heavily on the listener's sensibilities than their feet.
As a result of the music's constant growth and mutation, drum and bass has been split into numerous styles and types. These include:
Artcore, Techstep, Hardstep, Jump-Up, Liquid Funk, Ragga Jungle, Jazzstep and so on.
Whilst some of these styles have been passing phases others have become the cores of the musics.
Artists of note include:
Goldie, LTJ Bukem, Blame, Adam F, Roni Size, Photek, Omni Trio, Breakbeat Era, Reprazent, Kosheen, DJ Hype, Andy C
Labels of note include:
Good Looking, Moving Shadow, Ram, Virus, True Playaz, Prototype, Liftin' Spirt, Valve, Metalheadz
Albums of note include:
The Logical Progression Series, Earth series, Reprazent by Roni Size, Dillinja presents Cybotron

Electronic based breakbeat music that doesn't quite fit under Jungle / Drum & Bass but is heavily derived from it. Breaks, Breakcore, Electrobreaks, Garage, Two Step, etc.
This category is all about Drum & Bass derivatives. If you are in a live band that doesn''t have any legitimate drum & bass artists in it, this is *not* the appropriate category. Please submit to a more generic electronic category. If you are trying to push the boundaries of Drum & Bass but don''t fit the contemporary profile (tempo, sample choices, etc), please submit.
