Rock

Broad musical genre typically featuring electric guitar, drums, and powerful bass. Classic

Music by artists heard on album-oriented rock radio stations of the 1960s and 70s such as Led Zeppelin and Jim Hendrix. Also includes later recordings by artists established during that time such as the Rolling Stones and Tom Petty. Dismissed by some people as dinosaur rock, hailed by others as the greatest music of all time.

Electroclash

Electroclash is generally described as Euro-influenced 80's style synthesizer-based music. It has also been called nu wave, electro-pop, and synth-pop.

Garage

This category relates to bands that play any form of "garage rock" or "garage punk" music. It's intended to help the promotion of websites that are about stripped-down, wild rock'n'roll (raw, primitive, and untamed). Roots should be easily traced back to late '50s (rockabilly & R&B), as well as '60s (frat rock, surf, hot rod, freakbeat, garage, punk, mod, and psychedelic rock'n'roll) and/or the '70s (proto-punk, powerpop and hard-edged new wave [pre-Hardcore Punk]). Gothic

Gothic music can span several different styles, such as rock, metal, and punk. The modd is often heavy and dark, and the subject matter often dark, brooding, and may discuss such things as the occult, death, and the paranormal.

Heavy Metal

A type of hard rock rich in stylistic conventions including extreme loudness, powerful lead and rhythm guitars, extended solos including those on bass and drums, exaggerated sexuality in lyrics and performance poses, and a predilection toward tatoos, long hair, and leather attire. Name supposedly comes from the line "heavy metal thunder" in "Born to Be Wild," a 1970s hit for the band Steppenwolf. Leading exponents include Metallica, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Alice Cooper, and Kiss.

These bands take risks, and they do them on stage, day in and day out. They are innovators crusading for the soul of music.

Progressive

How exactly does one classify progressive music? Is it merely the 70's stalwarts such as Genesis and King Crimson and those who seek to carry on their work? Can a jazz fusion band be progressive? Are Radiohead and Primus part of prog? For that matter, is Asia? We will not attempt to try answering those questions. Suffice it to say that if you have an idea of what progressive music is, you will find we have tried to include everything that falls into the various definitions of the genre. You may not agree with their inclusion, but you will understand why we think they ought to be here. For those of you who do not know, explore a bit. Punk

Punk rock. The name says it all. Energetic and usually with an active dislike for established forms of music, politics and fashion. Most fans of Punk Rock or some of its many offshoots (hardcore, straight-edge, emo, grindcore, etc) are devoted to their music and lifestyle. The driving force that keeps punk rock fresh is it's individuality and the ability to "Do It Yourself" (also known as the D.I.Y. ethic).

Ska

Ska is a genre of music. Good dance music. Probably not the same dance music you're thinking of! It came about in Jamaica in the early 60's. There are 3 "waves" or time periods where ska has been significant. These are first wave (traditional) which was in Jamaica. Second wave (two tone) which was in the UK... and third wave which is all over the world.
