The countertenor voice is a high male voice usually sung falsetto. In addition to singing parts written for this voice, countertenors frequently sing parts written for castrati.
American countertenor ( b. 1966 ). Specializes in baroque and classical opera as well as renaissance music. He has appeared in opera world wide, singing the title roles of various well-known operas.
English countertenor ( b. 1941 ). His career spans opera, oratorio, contemporary music and solo recitals. He has given the world premiere of many important contemporary compositions, including works by Benjamin Britten.
English countertenor ( b. 1955 ). Sings in all areas of the classical repertoire. He has appeared in oratorios and recitals all over the world, performing music ranging from Elizabethan lute songs to new works commissioned for him.
American countertenor ( b. 1966 ). Specializes in baroque and classical opera but has also sung more recent music. He made history as the first countertenor to give a solo recital in the main auditorium of Carnegie Hall.
