The Petrochemicals category comprises establishments which are primarily engaged in the production of intermediate chemicals used in various chemical sectors that are derived from petroleum products. These include:
  • Alkenes and Olefins, including ethylene, propylene, butadiene, raffinate, and isoprene,
  • Aromatics, including benzene, toluene, xylenes, ethylbenzene, and cumene,
  • Fuel additives,
  • Lubricants,
  • Paraffins and waxes, or
  • Solvents, including hexane, isopropyl alcohol, phenol, acetone, ketone, ethyl acetate, and methylene chloride.
Also included are support industries such as associations, wholesalers, importers, and media companies which focus on the petrochemicals industry. Sites not listed in this category include:
Aromatic petrochemicals are those with one or more conjugated ring systems. The most common examples are benzene, toluene, and xylenes. Only producers of chemicals that can be directly derived from oil feedstocks are listed here. Other aromatic chemicals, such as those incorporating hetero-atoms such as chlorine, oxygen, or nitrogen, are found in other categories.
