Office Open XML (also known as OOXML or OpenXML) is a zipped, XML-based file format developed by Microsoft for representing spreadsheets, charts, presentations and word processing documents. It has become the default target file format of Microsoft Office starting with Microsoft Office 2007.
Extensions: .docx, .pptx, .xlsx
The OASIS Open Document Format for Office Applications (often abbreviated to OpenDocument or ODF) is an open format for saving and exchanging documents such as formatted text, spreadsheets, databases, charts, and presentations. OpenOffice.org used OpenDocument as its native format from version 2.0 onward. Versions 2.0–2.3.0 default to the ODF 1.0 file format; versions 2.3.1–2.4.3 default to ODF 1.1; versions 3.0 onward default to ODF 1.2.
OpenOffice.org XML is an open XML-based file format developed as an open community effort by Sun Microsystems in 2000–2002. OpenOffice.org 1.x and StarOffice 6 and 7 used the format as their native and default file format for saving files.
In 2005, OpenOffice.org (since version 2.0) and StarOffice (since version 8) switched to OpenDocument as their native and default format.
