The original "Goal!" was created for the Amiga by Dino Dini, the man behind classics like Kick Off, Kick Off 2 and Player Manager. The PC version was converted by Chris Sawyer and is almost similar to the original. The only difference worth mentioning is that the extra fire button supported on the PC makes the controls even more intuitive. The ability to install the game to a harddisk also comes in handy. Released in 1997 as an arcade game by Namco, it was released in 1998 for the Sony PlayStation. It is probably best known for allowing the ability to play as just one player, instead of controlling the player nearest the ball.
A sequel known as Libero Grande International was released in Europe and Japan only, to limited success.
