This category is for medications used to treat anxiety (including panic), stress, agitation, and sometimes insomnia. The principal group of drugs used for this purpose are sedatives in the benzodiazepine group. SSRIs also are prescribed for treatment of anxiety.

Antiasthmatic

Treatment for asthma can include inhaled medication, in the form of inhalers or nebulisers, or oral medications.

Antipsychotics

Medications used to treat schizophrenia and related disorders. Also called "neuroleptics." Includes both conventional antipsychotics such as chlorpromazine (Thorazine) and haloperidol (Haldol), and atypical antipsychotics such as risperidone (Risperdal), olanzapine (Zyprexa), quetiapine (Seroquel), and ziprasidone (Geodon).

Beta Blockers

Beta blockers is a nickname for beta-adrenergic blocking drugs. This is a group of medications that affect the body's response to certain nerve impulses by blocking the effects of adrenaline on the body's beta receptors. These drugs are used to treat high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, abnormal heart rhythms, chest pain (angina), migraine, tremors, and glaucoma.
