Plants are a major living part of any garden. This is the area for sites who focus on specific types of plants. The subcategories have been grouped first by plant type, then by plant name. If a site focuses on one specific type of plant, it will be listed in the plant name subcategory. If there is no plant name subcategory, then the site will be listed in the plant type category until there are enough sites to create a new subcategory. Sites that sell plants will not be listed here.
This category is for information only sites.

Sites that sell plants, or any other gardening products should find the appropriate Shopping subcategory. Alternatively, you could Curlie for the appropriate category. Sites for local businesses focused on a certain geographical location or area should be submitted to an appropriate subcategory of Regional. To determine which Regional cat is most appropriate please view the Regional Description.

The Home/Gardens/Plants/Annuals category is for informational sites regarding the care, selection, maintenance, and growing of these plants. Sites that have guides or "how-to" information on annuals belong here. Sites that are selling annual plants belong in Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Plants
Plants that have adjusted to the arid and semi-arid regions of the world are known as cacti and succulents. Cacti are defined as members of one plant family and are considered separately, although they are actually succulents. The term Succulent encompasses all other fleshy plants, which stem from a variety of plant families. Both succulents and cacti have developed means of survival that assure their growth in these regions. Their leaves have become smaller and their stems larger in order to store more water; in some, the leaves have disappeared leaving only thickened green stems. In plants where the leaves have not disappeared, the leaves may have become thickened or insulated with coverings of hair, wax or scales.
Carnivorous plants attract, capture, and consume small creatures (primarily insects) as a means of obtaining nutrients. They generally grow in areas that are warm and humid, but it is possible to grow them indoors too.
This category is for sites that contain information about the cultivation, propagation, identification, and trading of carnivorous plants. Discussion forums, mailing lists, and photo galleries are also acceptable.

Business sites should be submitted elsewhere:

Sites about gardening with ferns and fern allies (Pteridophytes).
Fruit, berry and nut varieties suitable to grow in the backyard or small holding for home consumption; 'how to' information on growing and planning for fruits, berries and nuts in the home garden landscape.
Please submit sites for professional fruit growers to Business: Agriculture and Forestry: Horticulture: Fruits or Business: Food and Related Products: Produce: Fruits. Sites offering fruit plants for sale are listed in Shopping: Home and Garden: Plants: Fruit.
Sites containing information about ornamental grasses and bamboos for the garden.
This category is full of sites on caring and maintaining house plants as well as a variety of decorating tips and specific plant information.

Please suggest only house plant related topics. Other gardening information can be submitted to the gardens or plants categories.

If you are looking for information about propagating a particular plant, check the references here as well as the category for that plant (e.g., the category Home: Gardening: Plants: C: Clematis contains a useful resource for growing clematis from seed). Websites concerned with information on commercial plant production will be found at Science: Agriculture: Horticulture: Propagation and Nursery Practice.
Submit only purely informational sites here; sites selling seeds or propagation supplies should be submitted to the proper Shopping category.

If the site you are submitting contains information about the propagation of plants in a single genus that has its own category in the directory, please submit the site directly to the genus category.

Gardeners and landscapers employ various techniques to shape plants into forms they do not naturally attain. Examples include bonsai, topiary, and espaliering.
