An independent fundamental Baptist college and seminary in Powell, Tennessee, training Christians to serve the Lord. Operated as a ministry of the Temple Baptist Church. Offers bachelor's and graduate degrees. Not accredited nor seeking accreditation, but authorized by the state to grant degrees.
State university (part of the Tennessee Board of Regents system) located in Johnson City, Tennessee. ETSU was founded in 1911 as East Tennessee State Normal School, and was also known as East Tennessee State Teachers College and East Tennessee State College before officially becoming a university in 1963. Currently, ETSU contains six major colleges (Arts & Sciences, Business & Technology, Education, Medicine, Nursing, and Public & Allied Health), with two more in the works. In 2007, the College of Pharmacy will start with the first class of students, and the Public & Allied Health will be split into two separate colleges (College of Public Health and College of Health Related Professions). There are also separate schools for Graduate Studies and Continuing Studies, and an Honors College.

Trevecca Nazarene University was founded in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1901 by the Reverend J.O. McClurkan as the Literary and Bible Training School for Christian Workers. In 1911 the curriculum was enlarged and the name changed to Trevecca College. This name was taken from an institution started in Wales in 1768 during the Wesleyan revival. In 1914 the College was moved from downtown Nashville to a site on Gallatin Road in East Nashville and in 1935 was established at its present location on Murfreesboro Road in southeast Nashville. Trevecca became an official college of the Nazarene Church in 1917 and graduated its first four-year class in 1942. It was first accredited by the Southern Association of Schools in 1969. Masters degree programs were added in education in 1984, in religion in 1987, and in organizational management in 1992. In 1995 the Board of Trustees voted to change the name of the school from Trevecca Nazarene College to Trevecca Nazarene University.
