Deakin has a total of five campuses with two in Melbourne, two in Geelong and one in Warrnambool. There are 29,000 students, 12,000 who study externally and approximately 2,500 international students.

There are 45,000 students from business and the professions enrolled in customised courses in the private arm DeakinPrime.

Established in 1908 as the Eastern Suburbs Technical College, Swinburne is now a diverse institution, especially following recent amalgation with Outer Eastern TAFE. Largest campus in Hawthorn with others throughout the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.

The University of Melbourne was the fist university in the state of Victorian, first established 1855 with an enrolment of 16. There were 38,674 students enrolled in 2003. It offers a vast range of coursework and research programs at a number of campuses across the state. The private arm, Melbourne University Private provides sector and client specific education, research and consultancy services.
