Cheolwon

Cheolwon County is located in far northwest Gangwon province, on the border with North Korea.

Chuncheon

Chuncheon City is located in northwestern Gangwon province. It is bounded by Gyeonggi province on the west, and within Gangwon-do it shares borders with Hwacheon, Yanggu, Inje, and Hongcheon.

Donghae

Donghae City is located on the coast of the East Sea (Sea of Japan) between Samcheok and Gangneung Cities. It is bordered on the west by Jeongseon County.

Gangneung

A popular resort city on the East Sea coast, Gangneung lies between Donghae City and Yangyang County. It is the northernmost coastal city served by the Korean National Railroad.

Goseong County is located on the East Sea coast along the border with North Korea, in the northeasternmost corner of South Korea. It shares its western border with Inje County and its southern border with Sokcho City.

Hoengseong

Hoengseong County lies in southwestern Gangwon province. It is bordered by Wonju City and Hongcheon, Pyeongchang and Yeongwol Counties.

Hongcheon

Hongcheon County sprawls across central Gangwon province. It is bounded on the north by Chuncheon and Inje, on the east by Yangyang and Gangneung, on the south by Pyeongchang and Hoengseong, and on the west by Gyeonggi province.

Hwacheon

Hwacheon County is located along the border with North Korea in northern Gangwon province, between Cheolwon and Yanggu Counties. It is directly north of Chuncheon City.

Inje

Inje County is a large county adjacent to the DMZ in north-central Gangwon province. Within South Korea, it borders the counties of Yanggu, Hongcheon, Yangyang and Goseong, and the cities of Sokcho and Chuncheon.

Jeongseon

Jeongseon County lies in southeastern Gangwon province.

Pyeongchang

Pyeongchang County is located in south central Gangwon province. It is best known for its unsuccessful bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Samcheok

Samcheok City is located between Uljin and Donghae on the East Sea coast, in the southeastern corner of Gangwon province.

Sokcho

Located north of the 38th parallel on South Korea's East Sea coast, this picturesque city is the only South Korean port with regular passenger ship connections to Russia. It lies between Goseong County and Gangneung City.

Taebaek

Taebaek City is an inland district in southeastern Gangwon province.

Wonju

Yangyang County lies on the East Sea coast between Gangneung and Sokcho.

Yeongwol County is located in southernmost Gangwon, and is bordered on the south by Chungbuk's Danyang County and Gyeongbuk's Yeongju City.
