Belize is located on the Caribbean Sea, east of southern Mexico and northern Guatemala.
Formerly the colony of British Honduras, Belize has been independent since September 21, 1981. The capital is Belmopan. Administratively, Belize is divided into six districts: Belize, Cayo, Corozal, Orange Walk, Stann Creek, and Toledo.
Tourism is the major industry, with significant production and export of sugar cane, citrus fruit, and bananas.
British or US spelling is fine. Very few sites will be listed at the national level. Most sites, such as lodging establishments and businesses, will be listed in the locality where they are physically located.
