This category provides links to the counties, regions and localities of England, and
to the major topics under which sites may be listed within those locations.

All sites in this section of the directory are listed according to location.

No websites are listed at this level.

This is a Regional section of the directory where websites are listed first and foremost by physical location.
Look for the correct geographic category and then, for an appropriate subject category within that location.
If there are no subject categories for that location, suggest the website to the location itself.

Your website is more likely to be listed if suggested following the  Guidelines.
The most likely reason a website is not listed under the England categories is that the website does not
show a physical address in England for the  Locality, (Postal Town if the Parish is not listed)
where the website is based, such as the head office of a business.
Exceptions are where the website shows physical addresses including more than one Region,
though if the website shows addresses only the counties of one Region, the website
should be listed in the appropriate topical subcategory there.

The category tree is for websites about artistic and entertainment activities, events, institutions, organisations, artists, musicians and festivals based in England.

Few sites will qualify for a listing at this level.

We recommend you suggest the website to the most specific  Locality, or if
more than one town the  County, or if more than one county the  Region of England,
If the website shows addresses in more than one region, then it may be eligible to be listed in one of the topical sub-categories here.
If the website relates to more than one country in the UK, then it should probably be listed at a more
specific topical category under UK: Arts and Entertainment.

Suggesting inappropriate websites here will only delay review and potential listing by the editors.

Bedfordshire lies to the North of Hertfordshire and also adjoins Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire.  Its county town is Bedford.

Berkshire is a county in central southern England, about 50 miles long from West to East.  Its main town is Reading, and also includes the towns of Slough, Windsor and Maidenhead to the East, Bracknell and Wokingham in the South, and Newbury to the west.

Berkshire is part of the Thames Valley, the river forming much of the northern border of the county and flows through Reading, Maidenhead and Windsor.  It is also known as the UK's Silicon Valley, due to the high number of high-tech businesses in the area.

This category tree leads to websites which are based in and serve the people of the Royal County of Berkshire, England.

Please suggest websites to the most suitable sub-category.
Thank you.

Bristol, derives from "Brigstow", the Saxon for bridging point.
Formerly part of Avon county, the city is now a unitary authority in its own right,
with a population of around 500,000 people.
This category tree is for websites about, or with addresses located within Bristol.
Bristol is in the  South West of England on the south bank of the Severn Estuary
at  Avonmouth, between the unitary authorities of:
North Somerset to the west and south,
Bath and North East Somerset to the south east,
South Gloucestershire immediately north and east.
separating Bristol from the county of  Wiltshire further east.
All websites should be under the appropriate sub-category,
where they can be included in the Regional Tree View
[ toggle the  Regional Tree View -symbol to return to the traditional category view ].
Please only suggest websites that are about, or are by people who live in the unitary authority of Bristol.
If the website shows physical addresses in more than one neighbourhood, please suggest it to the
most appropriate sub-category here, not to that for each locality.
Websites comprising only photographs of areas of Bristol are more appropriate for
the  Maps and Views category.

Milton Keynes "community localities" are listed under  Borough_of_Milton_Keynes, such as  BletchleyStony Stratford and  Newport Pagnell listed directly under Buckinghamshire.

A list of community localities can be found under Milton Keynes description.
Do remember to then select most appropriate subject category where available.

Note: Sites must have a locality reference or address to be listed in Regional Categories.

It contains the Lake District National Park, about one quarter of which is owned and managed by the National Trust. It also contains a small part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Cumbria was formed in 1974 from the former counties of Cumberland and Westmorland. Covering over 6,808 square kilometres, Cumbria incorporates the famously scenic Lake District which includes Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain at 978 metres. Its borders have changed over time: The largest urban areas, around Manchester and Liverpool, are no longer part of the administrative County of Lancashire. The sub-topics are shown in their localities, and if this is grey, then clicking restores the view with localities at the top.

Please suggest websites to the most appropriate subcategory of their locality

Only if the website shows the addresses of more than one locality will it be included in one of
the county's topical categories, with the exception of Community, Health or Environmental websites,
providing information of broader interest in Merseyside.

If your locality is not listed, then suggest the website to the appropriate subcategory of the postal town,
where it can be added to the  Regional Tree View.
For a locality without its own category:
If you know three websites that correspond to a new locality in Merseyside, consider applying to be named editor

Norfolk
Home to the Norfolk Broads and many scenic coastal and historic towns and villages.

Please note that there are sub-topics for the major categories which are shown by clicking the dark    symbol right of the Norfolk heading.
The sub-topics are shown in their localities, and if this is grey, then clicking restores the view with localities at the top.

Before suggesting a site please read these general guidelines to verify that you are submitting to the correct category.

Failure to submit to the correct category can increase the time it takes for the site to be reviewed by an editor.

You are presently at "Norfolk" level which has its own sub-categories as well as a breakdown of more specific locations.
Generally sites are listed in there specific locations as opposed to Norfolk level. ie. If you are a business based in Norwich, you would look for the appropriate sub-category under Norfolk: Norwich and suggest the site there. Even if the business offers it service to the whole of Norfolk - submit to the actual physical location of the premises and not to the coverage area.

Businesses should always submit to the Business and Economy category within the locality if one exists.

There are a few instances where your site may be more suited at Norfolk (this) level or one of its immediate sub-categories:-

  • Your business/organisation has more than one physical location in Norfolk ONLY. If you have more locations outside of Norfolk then you should locate a category that covers ALL of your UK locations.
  • Your site has content that is only related to Norfolk as a whole. ie: Perhaps a site that list entertainment events for the whole of the county.
  • Your specific location does not exist and doesn''t have its own sub-category.
If your site is not specifically geared towards this location, please submit to the proper category. Submitting to the wrong category will delay and/or prevent your site from being listed in the directory. Submission Tips:

When writing your site''s title please ensure it is the same as your organisation. When writing your site''s description, please tell what your site offers in a clear and concise statement without hype or promotional language. Please ensure the correct use of capitals.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Northumberland is England's most northerly county, and has coastlines and countryside of outstanding natural beauty together with a rich and colourful history dating back to ancient times.
Northumberland is unique. It is the least densely populated County in England; and has its own National Park, the most remote and unspoilt of all the English National Parks. It has its own flag, its own tartan and its own dialect. It has more castles open to the public than any other county.
In Hadrian's Wall, it has the largest world heritage site in the country; and at Kielder, it has the largest man-made lake in Western Europe set in the country's largest man-made forest. It has its own food and drink and even its own distinct birds and wildlife.
It is the only British county with its own musical instrument: The Northumbrian pipes. It even has its own anthem!
Though largely rural, Northumberland provides an ideal environment for business, with an established infrastructure and excellent national and international transport links.

Please do not suggest websites directly to this category.

Only if the website contains the addresses of more than one locality will it be included in
one of the topical categories, with the exception of Community, Health or Education websites
for which there is no locality category yet, or providing information of broader interest in Northumberland.
If your locality is not listed, then suggest the website to the appropriate subcategory of the postal town,
where it can be added to the  Regional Tree View.
For a locality without its own category:
If you know three websites that correspond to a new locality in Northumberland, consider applying to be named editor
of the new category, making sure the title and descriptions comply with the Editing Guidlines?
North Yorkshire includes the districts of Craven, Scarborough, Ryedale, Hambleton, Richmondshire, Selby and Harrogate as well as the unitary authority of York, and about 700 parishes. According to the North Yorkshire Council, over half a million people live in the 3200 square miles of North Yorkshire. The rest is mostly countryside or national park - North Yorkshire is home to two of these; the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. There are two cathedral cities - York and Ripon, and a number of towns, including Northallerton, the county town, Harrogate and Scarborough, plus numerous small villages and hamlets. Until the boundary changes of 1997 North Yorkshire was the UK's largest single county.

We generally do not accept submissions to this category - please submit them to a suitable subcategory - either a town category (preferred) or one of the general categories if your site is aimed at the whole county.

Only sites which are specifically about towns or villages which don''t yet have their own categories should be submitted to this category - all other sites submitted here will be reviewed and then listed in a more appropriate category. Be warned though that submitting your site to the incorrect category could cause considerable delay to its listing.

Oxfordshire (abbreviated Oxon) is a county in South East England, bordering on Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Warwickshire. It is divided into five local government districts - Oxford, Cherwell, Vale of the White Horse, West Oxfordshire and South Oxfordshire. The major centre of population is the city of Oxford. Other large settlements include Bicester, Banbury and Chipping Noton to the north of Oxford; Witney to the west; Thame and Chinnor to the east; and Abingdon, Wantage, Didcot and Henley to the south.
Very few sites will qualify for a listing in this category.

If your site pertains to a particular place in the county which has it''s own category, then your site should be submitted under that category - either directly under it, or in an appropriate sub-category.

If your site relates to the whole (or a significant part) of Oxfordshire, or relates to a locality without its own category, or your business has multiple locations, then please find the most appropriate topical sub-category under Oxfordshire for your site, and submit it there.

Only if there is no suitable sub-category should you submit your site here.

This category divides the geographical areas of England in to nine Regions, into
which localities are distributed according to their respective Ceremonial Counties.
Websites with localities in more than one ceremonial county are listed in the
appropriate Region, linked from that county.
This category divides England according to the nine political Regions, used as the
constituencies for Members of the European Parliament (MEP)
(formally listed under  Parties ).
Although the future of these constituencies is uncertain, this remains the most
appropriate method of distributing websites geographically.
In the meantime within these regions other constituencies have arisen which span
ceremonial counties in more than one Region.
The first such example was  Humberside, formerly a ceremonial county between 1974
to 1996.  Although abolished then, some organisations still identify with
Humberside so it is included as an alternative linked subcategory here for guidance.

Other regions have been combined from districts or unitary authorities from more
than one ceremonial county, and where these have distinctive websites may
justify their own category alongside Humberside.
Until there are sufficient websites, please suggest these to the appropriate existing subcategory,
such as for Metro Mayors elected since 2017:
Landscape features and rivers often span more than one county or Region, and may
justify their own category linked from more than one locality in
UK Topical Science Environment  Landscapes.

No websites should be suggested directly to this category.

Please choose the most appropriate Regions subcategory instead,
following the  Guidance for England.

This category leads to websites for one of the smallest ceremonial counties in England,
famous for its artificial lake, Rutland Water.
Rutland has Unitary authority status, and has the lowest population of these; approaching 40,000 in 2019.
Rutland is nestled to the east of the  South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, served by the A1 trunk road from Northamptonshire,
and Eastern England from the south, past Leicestershire on the north to western boundary.
The A606, runs along the north shore of Rutland Water, by-passing the county town of  Oakham,
then serving Melton Mowbray to the north west.
The A6003 runs south from Oakham through the county to Corby, and is crossed at Uppingham by the A47 taking traffic westwards to Leicester.

Please note that there are sub-topics for the major categories which are shown by clicking the dark "Christmas tree" right of the Rutland heading.
The sub-topics are shown in their localities, by clicking   .
If this is grey, then clicking restores the view with localities at the top.

If you suggest websites directly to this level, then they won't be listed here.
Please select a locality that corresponds to the website.
Websites that contain listings in a greater area than Rutland should be considered for
a subcategory of  East Midlands, or related categories.
If the website relates to establishments in only one town, parish or village, then it should be
suggested to that locality, not here, so that it can be added to the   .
Only if the website describes establishments in more than one of the localities represented here,
will they be listed in one of the topical subcategories here.
Please submit to this category only wildlife websites relevant to the whole of England.

Wildlife websites relevant to specific localities in England should be submitted to the category for that locality and to United Kingdom Wildlife.

Shropshire is a county in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The ceremonial county of Shropshire comprises the administrative county of Shropshire and the Unitary Borough of Telford and Wrekin.
Very few sites will qualify for a listing in this category.

If your site pertains to a particular place in the county which has it''s own category, then your site should be submitted under that category - either directly under it, or in an appropriate sub-category.

If your site relates to the whole (or a significant part) of Shropshire, or relates to a locality without its own category, or your business has multiple locations, then please find the most appropriate topical sub-category under Shropshire for your site, and submit it there.

Only if there is no suitable sub-category should you submit your site here.

This category includes sites that reflect the make up of the region's community: its people, its history, and resources and institutions that serve the region's people, such as social service organisations.
This category is for websites which cover more than one region or the whole of England and reflect the make up of the country; its people, its history, and resources and institutions that serve the people of the country.
Please ensure that if your site is specific to a particular locality ie. it has a single base in one locality, OR covers either one region OR one county rather than the whole of England or more than one region it is placed within the appropriate topic subcategory for that area and not left here.
Offering a site to the wrong category may delay it being reviewed by an editor for possible inclusion in the directory.
We reserve the right not to list a site in the directory.
Thank you
This category leads to websites for the whole of the ceremonial county of Somerset and includes
the two unitary authorities of  North Somerset, and  Bath and North East Somerset,
whereas  Bristol has independent category.
Please try to find the appropriate subcategory based on the locality shown on the website, and
only if the website shows more than one locality, suggest it to a topical category
directly under the county, in the lower priority here.
Despite the Unitary Authorities being independent of Somerset County council, localities are
categories directly under the original ceremonial county.
Where the locality doesn't have a separate category or in the area defined in the category description,
please suggest the website to the district listed at the middle priority, where it can be
added to the  Regional Tree View  .
If you would like to suggest a new locality in the district, please consider submitting an
application to the ‘Become an Editor’ link to suggest three websites that would be appropriate.
The category would be a subcategory of  County, linked from there,
provided you follow the guidelines.
South Yorkshire is an inland county, bordered by Derbyshire, West Yorkshire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. It was formed of the southern part of the old West Riding of Yorkshire. The western part of the county forms part of the Peak District National Park. Population: 1,266,338 (2001 est.)

Tyne and Wear is a county in the north east of England and part of the area known as Northumbria. Northumberland forms the northern border of this county, the North Sea its eastern border and to the west and south lies County Durham.
It takes its name from the 2 large rivers which flow through the county to the North Sea;
the River Tyne and the River Wear.
It is upon their banks that the vast majority of its 1,121,000 people live, work and play.
Once upon a time the river Tyne formed the southern border of Northumberland and the northern border of County Durham but today it is the bustling centre of Tyne and Wear and both rivers are the scene of much regeneration.
Tyne and Wear may be the smallest of all the northern counties but it is the second most densely populated (Merseyside in the northwest being the first). The county has 2 cities and a number of large towns. The city of Newcastle upon Tyne lies on the northern bank of the Tyne opposite the large town of Gateshead and its conurbation on the south bank. On the Tyne estuary and the coast lie the areas of North Tyneside and South Tyneside respectively.
In the south of the county the city of Sunderland presides over both banks of the river Wear.

Please do not suggest websites directly to this category.

Only if the website contains the addresses of more than one locality will it be included in
one of the topical categories, with the exception of Community, Health or Education websites
for which there is no locality category yet, or providing information of broader interest in Tyne and Wear.

It is made up of the districts of Adur, Arun, Chichester, Horsham, and Mid Sussex, and the boroughs of Crawley and Worthing. Gatwick Airport is within the Borough of Crawley.
Before suggesting a site at this level, please consider the following: 1) Site submitted must be relevant to the county or locality it is suggested to or clearly have contact details identifying its location. 2) If you have branches in several counties, you should consider suggesting to a category under the South East Region, or even England. 3) If you have more than one branch in different locations (e.g. Worthing and Arundel), then you may suggest your site to the appropriate sub-category at county level. If you have more than 1 branch but they are in the same locality, please suggest to that locality. 4) In all other cases please suggest to the appropriate sub-category in the locality category. 5) If you cannot find the locality (e.g. small village) then look at the nearest localities. If it is very close to a listed location or it is mentioned in it''s description, please suggest it there. Otherwise suggest your site to the appropriate sub-category at county level. In all cases start the description with the locality name to help the editor out. If you are aware of good sites (other than your own) not listed then please consider taking the time to suggest them to the directory. This particularly applies if you are in a locality not listed, as being told of 5 good sites for a locality may result in a category being created for it. Please remember that we are volunteers and thus will get round to reviewing your site as and when we can, real-life work, domestic duties, family crises and weather permitting. Thank you
