Falmouth, population about 22,000, is a port town and parish, south of  Truro, Cornwall, with which it shares the Parliamentary continuency.
The River Fal enters a larger estuary, north of the port, Carrick Roads, which forms the deepest natural harbour in Western Europe (third deepest in the world).
Falmouth is on the west bank, with the harbour protected from the English Channel by Pendennis Point, where Henry VIII constructed the headland fortification Pendennis Castle.
This was the penultimate fortification for Charles I's Royalists to hold out against the Parliamentarian Roundheads at the end of the English Civil War (1642–1651).
Across the mouth of Carrick Roads, are Carricknath Point with Zone Point furthest south at St Anthony in  Roseland Peninsula.
Maenporth is at the southern tip of Falmouth parish, before Mawnan to the south west.
Inland the largest settlement in Budock parish is Budock Water, for which websites are listed here.
Falmouth is served by both rail and the A39 road from the north west, via Penryn.
Across the mouth of Penryn River to the north is Flushing at the southern edge of Mylor parish, where websites are included with Penryn.
In summer, ferries connect Falmouth with Flushing,  St Mawes and Truro.
