The Lake District mountain rescue teams handle over 400 incidents each year. These include people lost or injured as a result of an increasing variety of activities, such as mountain biking, paragliding, tobogganing, mine exploration, canoeing, as well as walking, camping and climbing. Members of the teams are volunteers from all walks of life. They give up their time freely and willingly to turn out at any time, day or night, 365 days each year, in any conditions. In addition, there is a considerable commitment to training and administration, not forgetting essential fund-raising.
