Sturminster Newton is a town on the River Stour as it winds down Blackmore Vale,: from Gillingham to Child Okeford to the east.
The main town is on the north bank, and a bridge connects to the A357 road on the south bank, from Stalbridge: in the north west to Shillingstone to the south east towards Blandford Forum.
