Merseyside is a county in the North West of England, centred around the mouth of the  River Mersey and the port of  Liverpool.
It was formed in 1974, from areas formerly in south-west Lancashire, and much of the Wirral Peninsula, formerly in Cheshire.

This category leads to websites for the area of north Liverpool made famous by the Grand National annual horse race.
The area is served by a rail station to the west of the race course.
Aintree Village civil parish is within Sefton Metropolit­an Borough.
The city boundary runs along the south of the race and golf courses, but the area of Liverpool city south of this has

Bebington is a conurbation on the  Wirral, between  Bromborough and   Birkenhead.

Birkenhead is the major conurbation on the  Wirral Penisula, across the mouth of the Mersey from the city of  Liverpool.
There is a ferry terminal, and a railway tunnel, as well as two road tunnels;
the Queensway Tunnel direct from the town centre, and
the Kingsway Tunnel served by the M53, north of the docks.
The area immediately north of the East Float Dock, known as Seacombe is a district of the town of  Wallasey
whereas the area north of West Float Dock, known as Poulton is a district of Birkenhead.
The M53 encircles the town, before serving the penisula south, via  Bebington.
North of the M53, Liscard and the original "village" area represented by the Wallasey category.
North west of the tunnel entrance, Leasowe is represented by the town with which it merges to the south west,

Brimstage is a village on the A5137 between  Heswall and  Bebington.
This category represents the rural area of the  Wirral Peninsula, south of  Berkenhead,
and north of  Thornton Hough.
Bromboroug­h is a conurbation on the  Wirral, and this category includes websites
for Bromboroug­h Pool, a port on the west bank of the Mersey estuary.

Litherland separates these inland.
The hamlet of Sefton after which the Metropolitan Borough is named, separates Crosby from  Maghull to the north east.

Eastham is a village on the  Wirral, immediately north of  Ellesmere Port.
This category includes websites for this village, the docks on the Mersey estuary at the
entrance to the Manchester Ship Canal, and the conurbation inland south

The rural area to the west of the M53 is represented by the  Thornton Hough category.

Formby is a residential town on the coast between  Crosby and  Southport within
Merseyside's Sefton Metropolitan Borough.

Greasby is an enlarged residential village near the north of the  Wirral Peninsula.
To the north the built up area merges with  Moreton, then east with  Upton.
To the west the village of Saughall Massie is represented by this category, though the coast is
represented by the  Hoylake and  West Kirby categories.
Websites for Frankby may be listed here, but those for Irby Hill should be listed with  Irby further south.

Heswall is a town and parish on the south west of the  Wirral Peninsula, with its suburb Gayton, immediately north of  Neston
(which is in the Cheshire West and Chester district).
This category represents Pill Hill, Pensy and Thingwall which merge into Hewall from the north
To the east is the parish of  Thornton Hough, then  Brimistage represents the rural area west of the M53, before
Barnston and Pensby directly north, then north east  Irby and  Thurstaston along the A540.

Hilbre, the main island; Middle Eye, its neighbour, also called Little Hilbre or Middle Hilbre,

Hoylake is a seaside town on the north west tip of the  Wirral Peninsula.
  West Kirby is directly south on the western coast, where the rail line terminates,having passed through
Hoylake, with three stations including Meols on the east edge of the town.
Moels and the rural area inland north of  Greasby is represented by this category, whereas the
conurbation to the east is represented by the  Moreton category.
The coastline to the east, including Leasowe is also represented by the Moreton category.

Knowsley Metropolitan Borough lies between Liverpool and St Helens, and includes the urban areas of
Kirkby, Huyton, Stockbridge, Prescot, Whiston and Halewood.
In addition, there are the villages of Knowsley and Cronton and the rural area of Tarbock.
Knowsley is perhaps most famous for Knowsley Safari Park.

It is the home of two Premiere League soccer teams, and the birth-place of The Beatles.

Newton-le-Willows is a town located at the eastern tip of Merseyside, just north of Warrington.

New Brighton is the conurbation and resort at the northern tip of the Wirral Peninsula, to the north of  Wallasey,
across the mouth of the Mersey from  Bootle.
To the west, is Leasow, then  Moreton, north of the M53.
Port Sunlight is a former model village built by Lever Brothers, now Unilever, forming a conurbation betweeen  Bromboroug­h,   Bebington
and south east of  Birkenhead, on the  Wirral Penisula.

The Metropolitan Borough of Sefton covers the area from Southport, at the northern-most tip of Merseyside, south along the coast to Bootle.

Southport is a historical seaside resort, absorbed from Lancashire in 1974 into
Merseyside's Sefton Metropolitan Borough.

Speke was a small village until the 1930s, thereafter expanding as a suburb
separated from Liverpool by Garston which now has a container port independent of Liverpool Docks.
The airport was constructed before the outbreak of World War II, which contributed to industrial development of the area.
Beatles musicians George Harrison and Paul McCartney were raised in this area.
Speke Airport was renamed to  Liverpool John Lennon Airport in 2001.

Wallasey is the major conurbation to the north of  Birkenhead on the Wirral Peninsula, across the mouth of the Mersey from  Bootle.
The Kingsway Tunnel, served by the M53, to the south of Wallasey, has its entrance at Seacombe,
under the Mersey to  Liverpool.
To the west, is  Moreton, north of the M53.
New Brighton represents the northern tip of the Wirral Peninsula.
