Located just inside the mouth of the river Avon, Pill's name means inlet or creek.
Historically the home of the pilots responsible for navigating ships into Bristol
and once a dock in its own right.
The combined North Somerset parish of Pill and Easton-in-Gordano, including
Ham Green now relies on land-based industries.
The North Somerset parish of  Abbots Leigh is directly south east along the south bank of the Avon,
which is crossed by the Clifton Suspension Bridge at Leighwoods.

Please suggest sites for Leigh Woods to the category representing the parish in which is is situated at  Abbots Leigh up river.
At the present time, please also use the Pill category for sites relating to Ham Green and Easton-in-Gordano,
with which it is included as a combined parish in the District of North Somerset, across the Avon from Bristol.
