The borough consists of the town of Crawley made up of the town centre plus the following residential neighborhoods:- Bewbush, Broadfield, Furnace Green, Gossops Green, Ifield, Langley Green, Maidenbower, Northgate, Pound Hill, Southgate, Three Bridges, Tilgate, and West Green. In addition the borough includes Gatwick Airport and surrounding area, the Manor Royal industrial estate, and Worth village. It should be noted that the land between Gatwick Airport and the built up area of Crawley contain a number of distinct settlements.
The boundaries of the borough are confused by an extension of mainly uninhabited land to the west of Gatwick Airport and a 'pie-slice' cut into the borough below this. As a result of the latter, the outlying parts of Ifield (Ifield Wood) is in Horsham District.
From the south, through the east to the north, the M23 and M23/A23 is the boundary, continuing along the northern perimeter of the airport until it's western end, where it heads west to mark the western extension.
From the south to the west, the boundary more or less follows the edge of the built up area, curving to the north-east until a kilometre south of the airport when it heads west to mark the western extension.
Places in the northern parts of the borough may still retain their Surrey postcodes and addresses, being identified as part of Horley.
