Bed and Breakfast (often referred to as B&B) facilities are small-scale accommodations located near or in the operator's lodgings, often providing a common area for television and reading. A dining room is provided for serving breakfast. Interaction with the facility's host(s) is often encouraged to provide a sense of being in a home.

Hotels are full-service lodgings offering on-premise food and beverage facilities, uniformed staff on duty, and with some or all of the following: cocktail lounge, entertainment, conference facilities, shops, recreational activities and/or shuttle service. This category also includes Inns, which is often interchangeable in definition in Canada.
