A Regional Municipality created 1 January 1998 by the amalgamation of twenty-three municipalities, each of which was a separate town, village or city. Encompassing 2,494 square kilometres, the municipality boasts a population exceeding 110,000 and is located in the prime agricultural heartland of Southwestern Ontario, with the largest community in the region, The City of Chatham.
This category is for sites about the various communities within Chatham-Kent. It includes former villages, hamlets and townships that merged to form Chatham-Kent in 1998 as well as both older and newer neighborhoods and districts within the municipality.
We have divided the communities into two groups, neighborhoods and localities.
Neighborhoods are communities of Chatham-Kent for which we have integrated most of the listings with the other Chatham-Kent listings. Listings for schools, churches, businesses, and most organizations for these communities will be found in the Chatham-Kent area. However, we are listing sites that are about the neighborhood as a whole within this Communities category.
Localities are communities we have treated as if they were still independent towns. Listings for various groups, organizations, businesses, and services are listed with the specific community category rather than in the Chatham-Kent one.
