Halton Hills was established through the amalgamation of Georgetown and Acton, much of Esquesing, and a small portion of Oakville.
Hamilton is the fourth largest city in Ontario, and the ninth in Canada. It is the largest Hamilton in the world with a rich history dating back to 1816. For an extended time, Hamilton and Wentworth County shared some services such as police and other emergency resources, existing as Hamilton-Wentworth. The new City of Hamilton came into being on January 1, 2001 through provincial legislation. Its status formalized the merger of all the communities of Wentworth County into the new City of Hamilton. Communities merged into Hamilton included Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough, Glanbrook, Stoney Creek and Waterdown.
