Quartz Hill is a small unincorporated area of L.A. County that sits on the West Side of California State Highway 14 ("the freeway") between Palmdale and Lancaster.
The surface streets in the Antelope Valley form a grid, with east-west avenues one mile apart named by letters (Avenue M, Avenue N, etc.) and north-south streets one mile apart named by numbers (10th Street West, 20th Street West, etc.). In between the Avenues a sixteenth of a mile apart of sub-avenues with names like M-4, M-5, etc. Avenue M-8 is half-way between Avenue M and Avenue N. Similarly, sub-streets that run north-south are a tenth of a mile apart, and named 11th and 12th Streets West, etc.
Quartz Hill is centered at Avenue M and 50th Street West. (Watch out for cops; the speed limit is 35 MPH, and they mean it!)
